If the status of my purchase is completed in paypal, why does it say pending under my banking transaction history? Does this mean my payment hasn’t yet been received by the seller? How long would it take for the funds to clear?

Banks don’t actually do anything instantaneously. The bank’s computers know the transaction has been completed, but your bank doesn’t close it’s ledger until the end of the business day. In truth, it doesn’t mean a whole lot to us one way or another. You may have noticed that your “available” balance has already been adjusted even if your actual balance has not yet.
Since banks deal in lending and borrowing and have to pay and charge interest, they have to have some sort of standard. The end of the business day the ledger closes and accounts are tallied (balances applied, interest charged/payed, fees charged, penalties drafted, etc, etc, etc). Which means many transactions made after 5pm (of whatever time zone the bank’s main office is located in) on Friday will often remain “pending” until Monday evening.
All that said, it’s totally normal, don’t worry about it.
PayPal takes 3-5 business days to clear. Other than that it’s great!
