I have a verified credit card in my PayPal account and tried to use it to make a payment, but it was not allowed. It said that I can only use my checking account (which is also on file). Why is that, what’s the sense of having a credit card there, if you cannot use it?

I had the same problem and had to use my checking account to make the first payment. After that I was able to select “credit card” in the additional payment options. So I’m thinking they want the first time you make a payment to use your checking account.
You should be able to use the card. For some stupid reason, PP won’t let you use a credit card as a default payment source.
Look for “other payment options” in the checkout process.
that happen to me also when i was purchasing something i started having problems with credit card errors so i had to find another way to pay
