When someone pays you via your PayPal account, why does it take about four days for the transaction to go through and for the money to actually appear in your account? Is this always the case?

In case you haven’t noticed
the name of the place is — Pay PAL
It is MY thinking that there is only one very busy dude and forty computers doing ALL the 4 million transactions each day— therefore— the Pay PAL — if there were more people — it would be called Pay PALS — now, wouldn’t it ??
