I’ve only used paypal to purchase about 10 things, and I got my account over a month ago, but it still takes 1-2 weeks for my payments to clear. Is this because the money is taken out of my bank account?

Yes, if you fund it with a checking account, it’s processed as an e-check. It’s usually a better idea to fund your paypal acct with a credit card, if you have one. It serves as a backup protection–you’ll have the opportunity to do a chargeback if someone does something wrong with the transaction after it’s too late to file a claim through PayPal.
