Paypal – Can Payments Be Retracted By The Seller?

分类: PayPal FAQ   时间: 2010-02-11   标签: , , ,

I’m currently attempting to sell a certain internet account. I’ve been offered payment through paypal but I’m worried about the security.
If I were to receive payment through paypal and give the person the account, could they then retract the payment (in the time delay between the money being transferred from paypal to my bank)?
Thanks so much, guys.

First of all the retraction would be by the BUYER. You are the seller. Retractions can happen either way, and they are called chargebacks. And yes, a chargeback is a distinct possibility, and scammers have been ripping people off on ebay a lot. You dont give them account access, just your email address you use for PayPal to send the money to you.
If the buyer pays you, and a MONTH goes by (not the delay in the money being transferred to your bank), and then discovers that the item was not as described, they can file a complaint with paypal and if they paid you via credit card, with their credit card company. Note if you state you accept paypal in your auction, you cannot limit it to cash balance only (anymore), you have to accept all forms of paypal including charge cards. No money orders on PayPal.
The only safe way to do business on ebay is via certified check, or money order or personal check held for 7 days. Even that has a little risk. And while some may tell you that you limit your potential buyers, I have been trading on ebay with only that approach for years. I pay with a Credit Card on PayPal, I sell for cash, cheques or money orders only.
    Hope that helps you..

They can even retract the payment after you’ve transferred it out of your account. If you have a reason not to trust the seller, I would recommend requiring payment in the form of a money order.

If you are selling a WOW account or something similar, I suggest you go read your end user agreement. WOW owns the stuff, including your account and the characters in it. (Second Life is the only online account that can be sold).
So if you fraudulently sell your account on eBay and the person pays you with a credit card and subsequently does a chargeback, you have no leg to stand on. If you attempt to move the move from paypal to your bank, paypal will still charge your account and they will turn it over to a collection agency.
When the buyer attempts to use the account, at some point the software owner will realize it and freeze the account for being in violation. If you have any other accounts, you will lose them as well.
