i dont have a paypal account and i dont want to get one but a buyer wants to use paypal to pay for the item he bought off me…do i have to have an account in order for him to pay me or not

Yes to receive paypal u need an account and a bank account!!
When you sold your item you specified payment options, if you did not specify paypal then you have no obligation to open an account, and he must pay through one of your specified methods. If you did, either by accident or through naivity, then I’m afraid you need to open a paypal account, however it is pretty simple, and much easier than dealing with cheques etc.
I’m not 100% positive, but to receive a paypal payment, I think so. However, I would keep talking about other forms of payment, I’ve gotten screwed by paypal 3 times now, I will NEVER use them again.
U just have to have a e mail ID to open paypal account.The buyer will instruct Paypal and they will send U a e mail,follow the instrucrions and U are there.
YES, you must have a PayPal account to receive payments via PayPal. It’s easy to set an account up and you may fine that useful when selling / buying items on the Internet.
You stated your terms, he accepted those terms when he placed a bid on your item. You don’t HAVE to get a paypal account in order to accept his payment.
However, if you have emailed this person from your own email account (not the eBay messages system) then it’s possible he could send money to that email address in which you would receive a message from paypal saying you’ve received money but in order to retrieve that money, you’ll have to open an account.
I know a lot of people don’t want to mess with Paypal, but it is truly an easy process for payments (both for sellers and buyers). It sure beats trying to remember to get to the post office to send payment.
