The money stays in your PayPal account.

When you receive a payment to your confirmed email address, the funds will appear in your PayPal balance. Once the funds are credited to your balance, you may then withdraw those funds via a bank transfer or check. Once you’ve had your PayPal account for at least 90 days, you may also request a PayPal debit card which allows you to withdraw up to $400 instantly per day at any ATM machine.
