When a purchase is made from my website (I’m selling a book I’ve wriiten) Paypal notifies via email (hopefully with the purchaser’s email addy), and then I email the purchaser the ebook? I’m not even sure, because I tried to email money to myself and Paypal wouldn’t let me. If someone could fill me in on the sequence of this type of purchase, I’d be grateful.
I’d like to automate the whole process, so the purchaser can immediately download the book. I know Payloadz offers the service, but there’s a minimum monthly fee of $15 which I’m not sure I can justify the cost of. My site isn’t even registered with any search engines yet. I’m not an uberh4×0r either, so the solution has to be pretty braindead.

"How Does The Paypal “buy Now” Button Work?" was posted on Wednesday, October 14th, 2009 at 1:11 am.

When a customer clicks your “Buy Now” button, they are transferred to PayPal’s website, where they enter their PayPal username and password, and approve the payment.
You receive an email from PayPal, stating that your PayPal account received money from a customer. This notification will contain their email address, so you can send them your book.
The difficulty lies with customers who claim they never received the book. How can you prove that you sent it? This scenario will probably happen, and you will lose a portion of your revenue as a result.
Third-party services like Payloadz offer a certain amount of protection for situations like this. It’s up to you to determine if this protection is worth $15/month, however.
Yes, Paypal can be automated but some programming in your website is required. Paypal supports Web Services which enable your server to respond as soon as a transaction is over. You can see the “Web Services” option in Merchant tools section after logging to paypal. You can find freelancers who will help you in setting up this in your website.
