Your friends have to have a paypal account, which is free for them. The charge for sending is free and picking up the money is free for certain methods. If your friend has a personal account and you send the money via PayPal Balance, PayPal Instant Transfer or PayPal eCheck they can pick it up for free. If you send the money via credit card, the fee is 4.9% + $0.30 USD (limit of 5 transactions per 12 month period)** for domestic or U.S. transactions. The money arrives instantly if funded by paypal balance, bank account, or credit card. If the money is funded by check, it will take time for the check to clear before they can claim the money.

Same way as sending money to a retailer, if your friend has PAY PAL account and you have a PAY PAL account you are in business.
Just think of PAY PAL as the post man, you post money in to the third party mail box(credit +) at PAY PAL and your friend logs on and collects the cash from the box (debit -).
Similar to Western Union money transfers the third party acts as the link between the two of you. This is no different to a buyer and a seller being linked together by PAY PAL.

Go to Paypal.com and set up an account. It’s self explanatory and takes about 5 minutes. There is no charge for sending money but there will be a 3% charge to the person who receives it. I use paypal and have never had a problem with it. It’s a very convenient way to send money or pay for something online.
