You sign up with paypal, and give them your checking account or credit card information. the verification process takes anywhere from 2 minutes, to 3 days.
After that, you have the option of paying people who accept paypal, using your checking/credit information, without revealing that sensitive information to the merchant/or whoemever you’re paying.
Paypal shields the information, so the merchant doesn’t have it, offering a level of protection, as well as fraud prevention and insurance against losses.
