It will end up in their paypal account,
from there they can “withdraw it” to an account.
It works the same way, in the UK as internationally, the money goes into their paypal account, then they can spend it from there (pay by paypal) or add an account and withdraw it.
Yes, you have to transfer from the Paypal account to their respective bank accounts which takes approx 5-7 days.
If you want instant access to money sent internationally, you will be better off using a service like Western Union or something similar.

but they could also just keep the money on paypal and then use that to pay other people/buy items.
