I sold an item on craigslist, and paypal took the buyers money out, and in order for paypal to deposit that money to me i need to give them the tracking number for the package.

No!!! Call the post office and have the item shipped back to you again! That’s not how PP works! PP does not take hold of the money until you provide a tracking number. Money always get deposited if a buyer pays nothings on hold unless it’s an eCheck or you have not confirmed your email addy. And the clincher is that “funds are on hold until you supply a tracking number. Please try to retrieve your item if you have shipped it.
Is the money showing up in your paypal account?
Have you mailed the item? If you have not tell the post office you need to track the item. They will show you the tracking number.
