I am currently bidding on an item on ebay, (never used it before). I have set up a paypal account, however not connected my debit card to it. Does this mean i cannot pay through paypal. or can i still pay via paypal but just put in my card details at the checkout like normal?

Yes. Pay pal guarantees secrecy and hacker safety to your account information, and this is their main advantage. If you give your credit card account information over the net, you run the risk of your information being hacked and being fraudulently used by people who would rob you blind
If you pay through paypal- you have to have the money come from somewhere—- therefore – you have to give paypal your credit card number – OR ..unless you want it directly taken out of your checking – give them your checking and routing number. OR, if you have money sitting in paypal from things you sold – you can send that to them too!!
