No, lots of people will accept a cheque or postal order – unless you are buying from overseas. It depends on the individual seller – check the item description

You may have to create one but you dont have to use it with a credit card.

you need paypal, a sister company of ebay (what a surprise).
Unless the seller accepts your card without paypal your screwed.

Pay pal is the best way to buy anything as they offer protection if the goods fail to arrive after payment, Pay pal is like a middle man so the person you are buying from does not get your card details

Maestro isn’t a credit card, it is a debit card!
Either way, you can only pay via card using paypal, unless your seller has an online shop and excepts card payments by phone.
What is the problem creating an account? I suggest you give paypal a ring, especially if the seller only excepts paypal, which suggests you have to pay by paypal….
You really shouldn’t have bid on a paypal only auction without a paypal account!

Yeah, you can set up a paypal account with a Maestro card. Set mine up ages ago, and I’ve had no problems. Its the best way to pay anyway!

No there are other ways to pay but it is far and away the easiest. If you are really desperate you can pre-pay into your Paypal account then use that money to make purchases.

  8. Clare(2010-01-10):

Yes, its the only way to pay using a card.

You should be able to link most credit and debit cards, as well as your checking account to a new Paypal account…I have all 3. Email Paypal customer service if you can’t set up account…believe me, they want you to be able to.

i cant get paypal either but ask them to accept a cheque and let it clear until they send you the goods – evry one I asked was fine about it

Some sellers accept direct credit/debit card payments but I really wouldnt use those as you have no proof of their securtity..paypal is the best bet as your back is covered should the seller turn out to be dodgy.
ps….I will add though paypal is playing up today and yesterday…I made a payment through it which hasnt left my bank yet and its usually immediate….it should be ok by monday though they are normally quite good.
