I recently sold a $80 hat on ebay. the buyer didnt want it and returned it damaged. Paypal is requiring I pay the $80. What should i do? Can they hurt my credit rating?

Are you planning on repaying the money, if so then everything is fine.
If not then you must dispute this and maybe her case against you goes away.
I am not sure but I would take a picture of the hat after it was returned to you. Hopefully the listing still has a picture of the non damaged hat and that should help you to prove your against the woman who probably wore the hat for a specific function and then returned it back to you.
This sucks
ANd to add insult to injury,this lady can now do this as many times as she wants to with paypal’s blessing since you now have no way to even report her dirty deeds (you can only leave a positive for buyers)
Report her to ebay anyway. I dont know if they can help but maybe if enough people report her she will be banned.
Once she is banned, i think paypal will close the case
Paypal isn’t credit extension. It has absolutely no impact on your credit or score.
