I sold something on eBay, and mailed it the same day I got payment. The item was small, so I did free first class mail shipping (it was letter size). Now the buyer is claiming she didn’t get it. I am pissed. I have mailed countless items first class and nothing has ever gotten lost, and I think this person is just trying to get something for nothing. So I closed my PayPal account! Can she still dispute not receiving the item since I no longer have PayPal?

If you mailed it first class, didn’t you do a USPS Return Receipt so you have proof of your delivery? If you didn’t, you have no proof this customer is trying to get something for nothing & closing your PayPal account so the customer cannot dispute receiving the item was not the right thing to do & does make you look guilty. When money is involved I think it would’ve been wise for you to be able to track the package you sent & make sure the customer received it before closing your PayPal account. If that customer really didn’t receive your package then you are the one who got something & they got nothing.
The dispute is to the sale and not where you got the money.
ebay will still process the dispute – closing your paypal account implies guilt in many peoples eyes.
ebay will carry over the claim if they find in they buyers favour but now you have closed your paypal account to use ebay again you need to open another and ebay will link the old paypal account and the new one with you so if they find in her favour you have achieved nothing but inconvenience yourself.
in fact deliberately closing a paypal account to avoid paying funds could place you on a ban list for ebay and paypal as its against the rules!!
I don’t use eBay but I have had items get lost in the mail – sending and receiving – so it is unfair to accuse this person. Closing your PayPal simply to avoid replacing/refunding the item seems a little heartless and dishonest. You deserve any negative feedback you receive
