No, not anymore ..
A typical scam was to open a paypal account using a stolen card and then make hundreds of high bids on ‘just closing’ auctions, some of which would have been placed by your mates (eg. all those $10,000 phones) … you then ‘paid’ for it all via Paypal ..
Innocent sellers would send you the goods but your mates would just transfer the money out of their accounts and run …
Eventually your Card would ‘bounce’ and PayPal would relalise they had been scammed .. so they would try to “snatch back” all your payments .. needless to say, only the innocent sellers got caught (your criminal mates were long gone)
Note that they still have this ‘mind set’ – when anything goes wrong with a payment, their ONLY and IMMEDIATE action is to minimise their own exposure by sticking innocent Buyers & Sellers with the fraud .. and they DO NOT CARE about tracking down the criminals (they even refuse to hand over the (no doubt fake) details entered by the fraudster to set up their account .. perhaps because too many accounts have been allowed to ‘Mr. S. Clause, No.1 The North Pole’)
