Ive been the victim of an unauthorised chargeback on paypal. I sold some tickets on ebay and a month after the sale the guy that I sold them to has successfully initiated a chargeback. I have gone through all of the appeals etc with paypal but the buyers credit card company will not back down (god knows why – he is clearly in the wrong!) Anyway, as I had already withdrawn the money from my paypal account my account is sitting in debit of $400. My question is; If I close down the bank accounts and credit card linked to the paypal account – can they chase me for the money? Also, can not paying paypal affect my credit rating? I am usually a good and honest user but think its completely screwed that because of this dodgy buyer I should have to suffer. Thanks heaps

Paypal will not automatically debit your resources without telling you. There is only one exception to that and it applies to accounts located outside the US. Paypal can send you to collections if needed. Collections does hurt credit scores. I would take the information you have and make a case against the buyer. If you have proof that your purchased the tickets, sent the tickets, and possibly that the tickets were redeemed you may have a case.
Why have you not contacted an lawyer? or sued in small claims court. Do you think us Yahoo’s out here really know anything about real law.
yes, yes and yes….if this person attneded the event, you don’t owe them a thing. If they couldn’t get in, you do. small claims court may be your answer, no atty and low cost to initiate.
