Do you need an account or something with western union to pay for things on ebay. I am not a big fan with paypal so if i bid can I possibly pay the seller with western union or a personal check?

Contact the Seller and ask if they accept other forms of payment — Postal Money Order are the safest. A LOT of eBay Sellers will NOT accept Western Union payments — in fact eBay warns people about accepting Western Union — a lot of fraud/scams. Most Sellers will accept Money Orders and Certified Checks — but ask the Seller for an alternative payment method.
Sometimes you can. It depends on the preference of the seller. It will say on the page with the item listing. It seems like more often than not people only accept paypal, but not always.
